Updating a VERY out of date bathroom

So we've been in this house for several months now, and although we have painted the master bedroom and the living room/kitchen/dining room area, there are still parts of the house that I have to close my eyes when I go by them.

The worst room, by far, has been our master bathroom. There are two vanities/sinks, a seperate toilet area, a shower, and a huge jacuzzi tub.

Sounds nice, right?

Wrong. 

Why?

Purple. 

Everything. is. purple. 

The tub is purple, the shower is purple, the blinds are purple, the paint on the walls is purple. It's horrible! 

hang on.. it gets worse

Yes. That is what I wake up to every single morning. The picture makes it look a little more red than it is in person, so picture that..but worse. 

Now, this wouldn't be such a big deal, but I have stomach issues, and I get sick a lot. I would guess that I've thrown up at least half of the nights last month, so that's a lot of time spent in the bathroom. If I'm going to spend a majority of my time in one room, it definitely shouldn't be the worst room in the house. 

So I set myself on a mission to update the bathroom at a minimal cost this weekend.

I sent Ryan out to the garage with the aluminum stand from over the toilet, a hot pink plastic trash can, and the toiler paper holder to spray paint them Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze, which we had already (cost-$0)

I pulled out the leftover paint from our living room (Martha Stewart 'Sisal') and slapped that over the purple. The doors were in really bad condition, so I painted white over them with leftover paint from the trim in the living room, and then I touched up the bathroom trim. (still $0)

I need to get one more white tub to hide the rest of my clutter in. It looks so much better already! I'll put proper shelves in one day, but for now the free stand that the previous owners left behind will do.


This weekend, I will hopefully have Ryan frame the mirrors in the bathroom and I will paint the cabinets dark. We'll spray paint the rest of the hardware in the bathroom Oil Rubbed Bronze, and I'm optimistic that it won't be quite as bad after all that hard work!

As a side note, there is a small buttprint on the door of the bathroom from Cambo, who, when I told her not to touch the door because it was wet, backed her naked hiney right up to it! I couldn't bring myself to paint over it. Precious. She kept asking me why I was "pinking" everything.

I'm sure there will be some money put into getting the wood for frames as well as cabinet paint, but I'm staying on budget so far :)
